Case Study 1 - Hawthorn
Our clients wanted to design a contemporary home, using the 8 metre variance in the levels of the site to create a visually striking home. As these clients worked from home a separate yet integrated functional workplace was also of high priority.
The result was an award winning home with a mix of contemporary and recycled finishes creating contrast and impact. Beautiful recycled Brush-box timber open tread staircases weave their way up and around the home to accommodate the split levels.
Our clients’ desire for extensive landscaping was incorporated by using exposed river pebbles for the sweeping driveway, a stylishly designed pond, and a feature retaining wall to be encompassed by the beautiful gardens. Views of their magnificent landscape are a major focal point and can be seen from most rooms in the house.
Sherbrooke’s meticulous attention to detail is evident when you discover the rich palette of materials used in creating the “wow’ factor. Some of these included Limestone bench tops in the superb kitchen which is finished in “two-pak”, recycled brush-box timber, extensive joinery finished in the highest quality of finishes, glass balustrading, copper panels that clad the front and east side of the first level, recycled Jarrah weather-boards with an oiled finish, and textured rendered walls.
Our clients were delighted with their new home and we were also highly commended by the industry when we won the 2003 HIAV Best Custom Built home $500 - $1 Million class and we were a finalist in the 2003 HIAV Best Overall Custom Built Home.

Case Study 2 - Williamstown
Upon inspection of the site it was easy to see why the entire design for this home was a contemporary interpretation evolving from maritime history in the midst of the serene bayside suburb of Williamstown.
It was paramount to our clients that the design embraced and captured the amazing continuous panoramic views from the Westgate Bridge, to the eastern side of the CBD and to the bayside suburbs of St.Kilda and beyond.
This home is another wonderful testimony to Sherbrooke’s meticulous attention to detail. Outside the modern curved verandah and the tall columns used throughout the home resemble a mast on a yacht.
On entering you are immediately greeted with the sound of a running stream creating a sense of tranquility and vast areas of continuous glass take advantage of the spectacular views. The internal design is planned so the rooms and spaces are like spokes connecting to the centre of a wheel keeping passageways to a minimum and creating spacious and flowing areas.
The ensuite to the parents’ retreat replicates the boating theme with mirrored twin vanities in granite resembling the shape of a boat bow. The shower is concealed behind a curved mosaic tiled wall similar to the arc of a boat hull, with feature blue lights in the wall base.
The final result of this home was a contemporary home blending all things maritime displaying an excellence in design, interpretation and craftsmanship.

Case Study 4 - Ivanhoe
Our clients’ instructions were to demolish and remove an existing single storey brick home located on a corner block and build two new townhouses, one for each client.
Although both homes have separate entries, driveways and vary in levels, our clients wanted the façade to appear seamless as if it was one house. This was executed with a clever design and by integrating externally identical materials.
Materials such as clinker bricks, “ Terracotta” slate grey roof tiles, patterned pathways and matching solid cherry oak colonial style front doors were used. Externally both townhouses are uniform in colour with a combination of “ Morrocan Dusk “ , “ Pearl Ash “ , “ Venetian Red “, and “ Crust” being used. The landscaping is also identical in both courtyards.
Internally, the floorplans, layout and finishes are quite different. Townhouse 1 comprises of 2 levels and there is a lift for easy access from the garage to the kitchen area. A feature wall greets you on entry, which leads to a passage-way on "grey box" polished timber floors. A skylight brings in abundant natural light and highlights a feature cupboard in "American Cherry" timber veneer. This material is also used in the kitchen with granite bench tops and premium Gaggenau appliances. Bringing the outdoors in, a courtyard can be seen from the kitchen, dining, study and passageway and is accessed through double French doors. Two large bedrooms a study and the above mentioned features make this home an extremely comfortable and easy to care for living option.
Where some of the same materials used in Townhouse 1 are identical to Townhouse 2, different colours have been chosen to reflect personal taste. This home also has 2 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, living, dining, laundry and a study/retreat area. The features that make this home different is the fact it is spread over 3 levels and has a minimum of 3 metre ceilings on the ground level including a soaring cathedral ceiling of up to 4.8 metres at the entry. Floor to ceiling glass windows provide a serene view of the courtyard and double French doors give access to the 2 terraces on this property.
These easy to care for homes are not only unassuming and easy on the eye, they provide functional, practical and luxurious living for their owners. Both homes also have extra inclusions such as acoustic walls around all wet areas, timber framed windows, hydronic heating panels, security system and premium tapware.
